One airline to allow passengers to choose seatmates based on social media profiles

Does using Facebook and LinkedIn profiles to determine which passengers to sit near on an airline flight sound far fetched? Not to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in according to this online article. Is this the wave of the future, or is this carrying things a bit too far?
