What is a parent to do when their young child is struck by or born with a disease, illness, or condition that is life-altering; or worse yet, potentially life-threatening? That is a challenge, in and of itself. But then, imagine being told about a possible surgical treatment that could possibly turn things completely around but the insurance company denying coverage because the procedure hasn't been approved for this condition, or on this young of a patient, or it's deemed "not medically necessary?" I would imagine most parents would do whatever they could to move heaven and earth for their child. This episode of Eye on Oshkosh is about just that.
Beth Oswald and her then-husband noticed something one night
about their 7-year-old son, Jonah, when they were putting him to bed. And that,
was the beginning of a three- to four-year challenge, meeting with doctors,
trying drug after drug after drug on your child, and worst of all, fighting
with insurance companies.
This is their story of how they were able to raise the money
on their own to have the surgery done - something that proved to be the best
thing ever for Jonah - and you should see him today!! Their journey is truly
inspirational and heartwarming, and should be a life lesson to us all, to never
give up, just because someone tells you something can't be done; or, as an
insurance company, they won't cover it. You won’t want to miss it. See it here
